June 2024: Warning! This website is horribly out of date. Since going freelance in 2020, I have been so incredibly lucky to have a steady stream of incredibly interesting, enjoyable, thought-provoking and – hopefully – impactful work with absolutely brilliant people. For about two years, I have been meaning to update this website, but I simply never got around to it, and trying to market what I do has never been my strong suit! My website being up to date doesn’t seem to have any bearing on whether or not I’m getting to do the work I want to do, so I’m leaving it as is for now. Please do contact me if you want to find out more about my work or are interested in working together, and at some point I will probably remove this disclaimer and do a proper refresh… But for now, on with the work itself.
Projects
Paul’s Place, 2020-2021. I have provided strategic development support for this disability charity, including facilitating strategic planning workshops with staff, carers and trustees, and providing support with project evaluation.
Housing Studies Association, 2020-2021. I project managed the HSA’s global annual conferences in 2020 and 2021, the premier forum for the presentation of advances and research in housing theory and practice. I organised this international platform for academics, researchers, practitioners and students, including managing the technology, marketing, programme, and leading on communications with all presenters and attendees.
Homeless Link, 2021. I carried out data analysis of Homeless Link’s annual survey conducted with organisational members across the country to understand their views and experiences of Homeless Link’s role and services. This included in-depth analysis of survey data, conducting interviews, and production of a full written report.
Fulfilling Lives Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham research and evaluation partnership, 2019-2020. I managed the full tender process for this large research partnership over two years, including setting research questions, invitation to tender, and leading the bidding and interview process. The successful partnership comprised New Philanthropy Capital (NPC), Groundswell, and the Centre for Regional Economic and Social Research (CRESR) at Sheffield Hallam University. I then managed the research project for the first 9 months, including internal research and the first public-facing output, a literature review that can be read here.
Various annual reports (for charities such as the Grace Eyre Foundation and The Passage). I have overseen development of annual reports, including writing, editing and proof-reading, and coordinating with photographers, graphic designers and printers to deliver a high-quality finished product that represents the charity’s work. I have also worked on the 2019 and 2020 annual report for the Independent Monitoring Board of Brook House immigration removal centre with particular focus on the Safety section, working collaboratively to develop and communicate the Board’s position on practice and policies based on evidence from our monitoring, which led to press attention in The Times.
Female entrenched rough sleepers’ project (CNWL, 2014). I was commissioned to evaluate this project that initially had one year of funding. My report showed clear success from the project and it went on to secure further funding, working intensively with women who had been living on the streets across London
Publications

Towards a human rights approach to multiple disadvantage (Revolving Doors Agency, 2021). I researched and wrote this essay in collaboration with Fulfilling Lives Lambeth, Southwark and Lewisham.

Museum of Homelessness, 2020-2021. I have coordinated the Dying Homeless Project since 2020 including research, facilitation of a campaigning Coalition, and network and partnership development in order to remember people who have experienced homelessness who have died with love and dignity.
I am currently working with the Museum of Homelessness providing research on Project Fortify, an examination of harmful narratives on social media about homelessness and migrants.

Galvanise Brighton & Hove 2019. As part of the European Campaign to End Street Homelessness, Brighton & Hove carried out a comprehensive survey of people sleeping rough in the city in 2019 to raise awareness about homelessness, engage the local community in the issues and the people affected by homelessness, and come together to create solutions. I carried out the data analysis and wrote a report detailing the findings, which has been used by stakeholders across the city. You can read the report here.

Understanding and responding to modern slavery within the homelessness sector (The Passage and the Office of the Independent Anti-Slavery Commissioner, 2017). I carried out research into the experiences of modern slavery in the homelessness sector, project managed the design and printing of the publication, and organised a launch event. The report gained wide attention, including from the Home Secretary at the time, and The Passage has gone on to establish expertise in working with homeless victims of modern slavery. You can read the report here.

Book of Stories (Education for the Children Foundation, 2013). I managed a project to create and publish a bilingual book of stories written and illustrated by children living in poverty in Guatemala. The book was sold as part of the charity’s successful Christmas fundraising campaign, bringing to life the imaginations and talents of the children to supporters in the UK. The book is no longer in print but you can check it out here.
